My very first sourdough loaf ever!
Hi, I'm Lucy! I made my first loaf of bread when I was twelve. It all started when my dad asked if my sister and I wanted to take sourdough lessons from one of the ladies at our church. While my sister decided sourdough was not quite for her, I completely fell in love with the process.
After some trial and error (and some great advice to help me rescue and restart my starter!), Book Bear Bakery was born. Now, I love sharing my bread and teaching others how to bake, too!
People are curious ask me where the name Book Bear comes from! It is actually a fun play on words. My family's last name is Bares ( pronounced just like 'bars'), but people tend to say "bears". When I am not in the kitchen mixing dough or teaching classes, you can almost always find me curled up somewhere with a good book. Combining my family name with my favorite hobby just made perfect sense. I hope every loaf I bake brings as much comfort to your home as reading a great story!
